So Phil will quit bugging me about needing to update my blog...

Turns out Phil is one of this blog's most consistent readers and as he's pointed out to me a few times this week, it's time for an update.

So, we are in the new house. And we both love it! The first couple days I was a bit overwhelmed...we (ok Phil, I) have so much stuff...how we (I) accumulated so much stuff in the 7 (oh my gosh, 7?) years since I went away to college, I do not know. Our new house is 4 bedrooms, and wouldn't you know it, we have enough furniture to furnish them all! Especially after receiving 2 more awesome hand-me-downs (dining set & desk) and a house-warming/birthday present of a new sectional for the family room (Thanks Mom & Dad!). So with all this furniture plus the 50 or so boxes of stuff that got stacked in the dining room on moving day, I didn't quite know where to start.

A week has passed since moving day and we have made some progress. The kitchen is basically done....everything is put away and organized, but there are a few decorative items that are waiting for their assignment. The family room is about 70% done. The furniture is in place and the decor is planned, it's just a matter of buying a new rug and hanging stuff on the walls, putting away the DVDs and possibly painting the inside of the art nook over the fireplace. All in due time. Other than that, furniture for the rest of the house is 80% in place, but no other decorating has occured. And my large collection of clothing is sitting in the middle of the bedroom still. And there are probably 20 boxes that haven't been unpacked or found a permanent home in storage. Phil is repairing a crack in the garage floor and then epoxying it, which is a week long process as a result of the crack. Thus, the storage boxes (x-mas decor, high school/college memorabelia, etc.) are stacked in the front room and in one of the spare rooms for now. DRY CRACK SEALANT, DRY!

In related news, I found a renter for the condo. And Phil found us a roommate for the house too (what else are we going to do with 4 bedrooms?), so we're heaving a sigh of relief on the financial side of this purchase. Assuming (knock on wood) that this house is in as good a condition as the inspector said it was and we don't go broke fixing a bunch of stuff, we might still get to take a vacation here and there.

Anyhoo, that's about it around here. Now, time to tackle the closet...

P.S. - I'll post pictures in a couple weeks, once we get these boxes out of here!

  2. Me too! I've been checking in for updates :) I am so happy for you guys! It's good to move every now and again because it forces you to go through everything you own. Dan and I can't wait to see the new place. I'm sorry we couldn't get together this weekend. Flying would've been really fun! Have fun with the rest of the decorating and unpacking!

I know how you feel about accumulating stuff though- I just moved into my very own basement suite and am WOWED at the amount of stuff I have (especially compared to Colin) ;o) Can't wait to see you thursday - it's been too long!!!
